Past, Present, Future?

Most of the summer over here...
There today, in proper café atmosphere...
New hangout for invisible fillums?
... moving out of the cash economy...
(PS it's NOT all about the beer, at all...)

Arrivederci

That was the summer that was.
Hope you enjoyed it.
Many thanks to all the artistes, venues and helpers who made it possible to run events and programs 5 or 6 days a week for 10 weeks.
A splendid time was had by all.
And - mostly - thank you all for coming to the evenings and programs.

Quiet Post #49

Lucas' show had a lower attendance than we'd hoped, what with post-Irene and a rainchecked date and all, but that only made it all the more intimate on the night.
A very interesting and wondrous evening.
When he comes back - as we are determined he shall - make sure to spread the word. Thanks to those of you who did come out, and many thanks to Tom and Cathy for the venue... and Lucas for the amazing show.

Raincheck Date For Lucas Handwerker

One week later... Lucas ' show gets to be the Last Act of the Woodstock Summer.
Please try to come along, but also, despite hurricanes, The Economy and school restarting, things will continue to happen.
Bookmark the page.
Best
Russell & crew and the Woodstock Youth and family Council, which is that little Y&FC on many of the posters.

Home Stretch

Despite the difficulty communicating, we have secured G-String Orchestra for the Saturday afternoon concert (4 till 8) alongside Les Bicyclettes Blanches.
Here's the poster, done without my usual helpers, though still incorporating a layer of C.F.'s work. Possibly illegible, but one lives and learns, eh?
Still a good afternoon and evening promised.
And Lucas Handwerker's raincheck for Sunday at 7.30, Mountain View Studio confirmed too. I'll post about that tomorrow.

Sublime Film

Alternative music. Alternative film. Alternative lifestyle.
I can't speak highly enough of this film. Downstairs at Colony, Thursday, with lively conversation about doc form before and a long 'oof' afterwards.

no picture

OK Yay... sort of... power is back.
check back tomorrow for readjusted timetable THURS to SUNDAY

Goodnight Irene

Sometimes I live in the city,
sometimes I live in the town,
Sometimes I get a great notion...

I guess you can fill in the rest

;-)

Until Further Notice

Not even a photo!
when power is back, we'll resume the schedule.
Tuesday is out (no building in Woodstock) but I hope we'll be OK by Thursday.
Watch this vacant space.

Just Down The Road

Cancellation of Lucas's show tomorrow looking likely, because of such scenes... all right, that's 300 miles south, and we are 600 ft above sea level, but, hey, people can always panic. More logically, there will be up to 6 inches of rain, and folks are unlikely to venture out, even to watch other people being hypnotized.
So tune back tomorrow for the raincheck date....
OR...
the miraculous sunny afternoon newsflash.

The Weather

We did not program THIS event, but it's happening anyway.
We will update tomorrow and definitively on Sunday noon - by which time the severity or lack thereof should be obvious to all. If the weather is indeed 'foul', Lucas Handwerker's show will take a literal raincheck. Date to be announced Sunday.
Or we might be OK up here in the hills. Please check this site for details.

Tomorrow Night

Three young bands.
Musics from Appalachia, Scots, Irish, the old, weird Amerika and the Balkans.
Guitar, banjo, fiddle, accordion, upright bass, voices...
Truly a great FREE night out.
See you there!

The Forever Autumn poster

It's all true, but the times might change as the days grow shorter.

Thursday Cultfilms in the café!

As cult films go, they don't get much rarer or better than this: Polanski's third film, hot on the heels of 'Repulsion' - with enough bizarre echoes of that film to fill a book, but, IMHO as they say, better.
Finally made available on video in the USA 12 days ago!!!! (true story) now for your delight and delectation, free and gratis, in the new look downstairs ballroom of the Colony Café.... on a nice new big screen, too, if I can get down to Jo-Ann's tomorrow afternoon and purchase it.
The poster tells you all you need to know, really.
Doors open at six.
Don't miss it.

The Mentalist

Next Sunday, we welcome the extraordinary young mentalist, Lucas Handwerker, to Woodstock. Make a special point to come along to Mountain View Studio at 7.30 for an evening of mystery and imagination. Seating is limited to 35 persons, as Lucas wishes to keep an intimate and personal tone to the performance. Woodstock Youth have free entry, others may make a suggested donation of just $5.
The show will run through twilight, to darkness.
A splendid time is guaranteed for all...

Another Day, Another Poster.

Sterling work from young Campbell on the rising moon of Arcturus... or somewhere.... and we'll try for a similar look for gigs and shows, maybe...

Oh, Wednesdays documentaries

Yes. Watching some - those few that are worth watching as FILMS, apart from (perhaps) their subject matter and worthy cause.
here's the first (or bits of it at least) unless - as I hope - we get derailed by argument and controversy.
Wednesday 5 to 7.30. Colony Café.

Låt den rätte komma in

Full House this week... so next Thursday from 6 to 9 we will be showing a very curious recent Swedish horror film. Or is it perhaps a romance? If you've seen it already, come and sample the ambience... if you haven't seen it yet... bring a friend you can trust...

More I N V I S I B L E

Regular Thursdays again... 6 to 9.
many thanks to Campbell F. for the poster.
More to come.
See you tonight??

Invisible films returns!

A rarely seen film these days - a Japanese take on the British 'stiff upper lip' as evinced through Javanese prison camps.
By Nagisa Oshima of 'Realm of the Senses' fame, and featuring the music of a very young Ryuchi Sakamoto. (and a pretty young David Bowie)
Friday 5 pm.
It would be a shame to miss this!

From this day on...

Tomorrow, Friday, we relaunch finally in one location for the rest of the summer, and - who knows? - beyond. Here's our first, rather austere poster. There will be a dozen events and concerts over the coming weeks, and we'd love to see a group of you take over a coherent graphic design sense.
Please spread this site around your friends!

Finally!

After all manner of negotiations and scheduling, woodstocksummer finally opens doors to a new HQ today!
In very short order we will be fixing different activities for each day, and starting work on the public events for the weekends up until Labor day (and beyond???)
Keep coming back here.
Those of you seeking a graphics outlet... come and help us run this site.

We're Back

OK, the heatwave is over, and now we need warm woolies, and some more of that pioneer spirit. If you can make the meeting on Tuesday, please come along and hear about other projects, too.

Coming At Ya!

Keep a Close Watch on and around the Village Green this month for the mysterious arrival and departure of distant cousins to this structure... and post-its... and posters... tourist traps and messages from the underworld...

Here Comes The Summer

OK, it's not all about 'Peace, Love and Understanding'... but what's so funny about peace, love and understanding?
Come back here frequently to see an updated list of summer activities in Woodstock for the 16 to 21 age groups.
